Welcome to the PsychEd.

Psychology and Educational Counselling Practice. We offer psychological assessment and therapy to adults, teenagers and children; tailored to suit the needs of each individual.

Many children, adolescents and adults have difficulties coping with their emotions or dealing with problems at home, school or work at some point in their lives. PsychEd offers sensitive and thoughtful psychological therapies for a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties. We also have expertise in assessments of intellectual functioning, learning disabilities and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia.

HOW WE WORK

We will first offer an initial appointment where we will listen to your concerns and discuss your needs. We will then explore with you what further support we recommend.

______________

CHILD AND FAMILY PSYCHOLOGY

A psychologist works to reduce distress and promote psychological wellbeing.

In working with children and families, this may involve one-to-one sessions with a young person, sessions where parents attend with their child/children, or group sessions, where young people or families with similar concerns work together to find solutions. Although parents often seek help regarding worries over a child’s emotional, behavioural, social or educational difficulties, psychologists also work with families hoping to build on existing skills and knowledge, or to learn more about how to support their children’s changing developmental needs. Areas that we can help with include:

✔ Anxiety & Self Esteem
✔ Childhood Depression
✔ Challenging Behaviour
✔ Eating Disorders
✔ Problems at School
✔ Self-Harm
✔ Social skills
✔ Sibling Rivalry
✔ Hyperactivity and Impulsivity

______________

ADULT PSYCHOLOGY

Adult psychology addresses the mental health concerns affecting adults at different stages of life. We can help a wide variety of people overcome difficulties, cope with stress, strengthen relationships, perform better at work and lead happier lives.

Some people may talk to a psychologist because they have struggled with an issue, such as depression, for a long time. Others may have short-term problems they need help navigating, such as difficulties with family members. Therapy can help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. Areas that we can help with include:

✔ General Anxiety and Worry
✔ Depression
✔ Anger Issues
✔ Eating Disorders
✔ Panic Disorder
✔ Phobias
✔ Managing Stress
✔ Health Anxiety
✔ Postraumatic Stress
✔ Obsessive Compulsive Concerns
✔ Social Anxiety

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

Many children have problems at school, and a full educational assessment can help identify areas of need and allow parents to seek the support their child may require in or outside school.

Children diagnosed with difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia or specific delays with working memory or information processing, may be entitled to additional support within the classroom, or special provision for examinations. Parents and teachers often report back to us that knowing that these problems exist and how to deal with them is often enough to get children back on track.

Our most comprehensive Educational Assessment lasts around 3.5 hours, followed by a 30 minute results feedback session. Assessment includes a detailed cognitive profile, details of strengths and weaknesses across different aspects of intelligence as well as an overall I.Q. score. Written language attainments are also explored including reading and spelling attainment ages and error analysis.

The Educational Assessment is very comprehensive and ideal for spotting a whole range of problems including, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia (numeric difficulties). It will also highlight issues with processing speed, working memory, verbal reasoning, spatial skills and much more. The report also includes diagnostic comments and detailed suggestions and guides for remediation.

EDUCATIONAL COUNSELLING

Helping students study abroad at university level:

The international university application and admissions process can be very confusing both for students and their families. At PsychEd we have a great deal of experience in helping clarify this process, so that students can make informed decisions, prepare effectively and succeed in being accepted into the university of their choice. We offer individually customised preparation and entrance strategies and support for students hoping to attend university programs globally.

We can help you with:

* Course Selection- taking into consideration the student’s educational background and qualifications, interests and career plans. Undoubtedly, this choice is the most important step a student will take in establishing their future and therefore requires effective evaluation.

* Country Selection (in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada or the Middle East) – this decision is based both on budget requirements and on the expectations of students and their families with regard to aspects such as the living conditions, distance from Turkey, climate and culture of the chosen country.

* Understanding and working through the application process – including the admission requirements, deadlines, reference letters, personal statements (arguably just as important as exam results) and any other requisite documentation.

* English Language Proficiency Exam preparation and applications – helping ensure students achieve the results in the exams they need (such as IELTS or TOEFL) for admittance to the university of their choice.

All of these services, and much more, are delivered on an entirely individual basis, through working closely in collaboration with each student and their family, to ensure optimal success.
